Education - Final Assignment

RMIT Online: UI Design
Frame-12

As part of my personal development, I chose to formalise my four and a half years of experience with a UI Design course from the RMIT Online. I'm including this case study in my portfolio as it demonstrates my understanding of the holistic design process and the activites involved.

We were provided one of three briefs to choose from. Each offered incomplete information around existing UX research to review, two personas, and four desktop wireframes. The task consisted of reviewing all data available, filling in knowledge gaps, putting together a UI flow to understand how a user would navigate through expected actions, and building out mobile-first designs to build out a functioning prototype.

THE BRIEF

AirBorne Airlines is looking to expand on the UX research that has been conducted and complete the UI (user interface) design of their website. As a UX team, we’ve researched the market need for an airline that promotes ultra-comfortable, economical flights. We completed the following tasks together to validate the attached wireframes:

  • Desk Research
  • User Interviews
  • Ideation
  • Concept Design
  • User Testing
  • Low Fidelity Wireframing

Now that the concept has been validated by research, the website is ready for its next iteration. We have the user knowledge from the first round of UX research to deliver a compelling UI for the website.

KEY OBJECTIVES

💡  Prominently display deals to users, with easy navigation to explore further.

Research found that a priority for users when booking for travel are discounted flights. Presently, users cannot easily view the deals offered by ABA. To rectify this, ABA will provide a page detailing the offers available to the user in conjunction with a dedicated promotional area on the homepage

💡  Provide users a comprehensive description of the in-flight experience

Research found that passengers didn’t always know what to expect during their flight and had to take extra precautions to ensure their experience was pleasant. ABA will provide a full explanation of the in-flight experience, including photos, videos, and a description of meal options.

UI-Flow-Revised
SOLUTION

Given the insights gathered from user testing on wireframes, and having conducted landscape research on AirBorne Airway's key competitors (Qantas, JetStar, British Airways), we decided to spend time on getting the search experience right. To address the key objectives of the site, a clean interface with prioritisation on deals and in-flight experience was required.
