Case Study

Super SA is the oldest superannuation fund in South Australia, boasting a 117 year-long history. They offer a range of benefits from tax free contributions to financial advice for their government-employed members.
Super SA came to us because their current site offering was in need of a thorough update, to achieve a better user experience at all cross-sections of their membership base, regardless of age, locaiton, digital literacy etc. To ensure best results, we reviewed existing research, interviewed representatives of each user base, fixed existing personas to demonstrate goals, frustrations and beliefs; mapped out user flows, user journeys, wireframed, tested, ran visual identity workshops and designed high-fidelity concepts.
This was my first outing as a design lead, I am proud of the team that brought my vision to life. It's indescribable to see this work not only be awarded for Optimizely's Most Innovative Digital Experience Award 2021, but also to be nominated for DRIVENXDESIGN'S Gov Design Award 2022 for Digital Finance.

The current site has a confusing architecture that makes it difficult for users to navigate to their target. We ran a card sorting exercise via OptimalSort and distilled the output insights to generate the sitemap below:

Having conducted user interviews, card sorting, and mapping UI flows, we put together a user journey to illustrate the various needs, actions and experiences of each persona.

With the knowledge gathered, we started to put together wireframes for mobile and desktop as agreed in the statement of work. These were played back to stakeholders and then tested with users.

I set the direction of including the same arch that is found in Super SA's logo, and worked closely with the product owner to produce a colour palette that was close to the brand guidelines, but also passed WCAG AA accessibility guidelines. I had conducted a first pass of the high-fidelity designs across mobile and desktop prior to the operational pause. Pictured below is the continuation of that by our designer in Adelaide.
